Prayer Shawl Ministry

St. Andrew’s Prayer Shawl Ministry is dedicated providing comfort to those in need or to remember times of great joy. Through the creation of knitted (or crocheted) shawls, blankets, or scarves, it is a personal outreach from the creator to the recipient. Based on the original Prayer Shawl Ministry (, we meet on Wednesday every other week, from 2-4 pm in the Cloister. In the spirit of fellowship, there is also the option of joining us for lunch at 12:15 on those days. Some people prefer to work at home, donating their shawls to the group when completed. An evening group would be formed should there be sufficient interest.

Once the shawls are completed, they are tagged to reflect their connection to the creator and St. Andrew’s. Before they are delivered, each prayer shawl in blessed, usually as a group during a regular Sunday service. This is a personal ministry and anyone can deliver these shawls. Our ministry also goes where the needs are the greatest, reaching outside the St. Andrew’s community where appropriate. Our group also donates shawls to the chaplaincy programs at Moses Cone and High Point Regional Hospitals. Scarves are donated to various social service agencies where the need exists.

Lessons, materials, and patterns are available. We also accept donations of yarn and related materials throughout the year. For more information, contact Lynda Sanecki at
